Day 1: Arrival in Paro/Thimphu (Approx. 55 km, 1 hr drive)
Arrive in Paro, where you’ll be greeted with stunning views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival, drive to Thimphu. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress of the Kingdom, now home to the School for religious and cultural studies. Explore the National Memorial Chorten, a monument symbolizing world peace and prosperity. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Exploring Thimphu
After breakfast, visit the Late King’s Memorial Chorten, National Library, indigenous hospital specializing in herbal medicine, handmade paper factory, and Zilukha nunnery. Explore the school of fine arts, Zangtopelri Lhakhang, Handicraft Emporium, and local handicraft centers. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha (Approx. 3 hrs drive)
After breakfast, drive to Punakha, the old winter capital. Enjoy panoramic views from Dochu La Pass and explore the highly-cultivated Punakha valley. Visit Chimi Lhakhang, the divine mad monk’s temple, and the courtyard of Punakha Dzong. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Punakha to Paro (Approx. 4 hrs drive)
After breakfast, drive back to Paro via Thimphu. Upon arrival, visit Ta Dzong, now Bhutan’s National Museum, and Rinpung Dzong. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Paro (Excursion to Tiger’s Nest Taktshang)
After breakfast, embark on an excursion to Tiger’s Nest Taktshang monastery, perched on a sheer cliff. Enjoy a steep hike or opt for a mule/pony ride. Explore the monastery’s shrines and enjoy lunch at the Cafeteria. Return to the road-head and consider further exploration of nearby monasteries and temples. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 6: Departure from Paro
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
